High-performance electronics demand precision – both in technical execution and business partnerships. At Marq-One, we carefully select partners who share our commitment to excellence and can provide added value to our clients.
As part of our commitment to comprehensive service, we introduce key industry partners who can support you throughout your production and manufacturing journey. Today, we’re featuring Solder Connection, a crucial partner in our network. We spoke with Technical Director Martyn Penfold about their business and our growing partnership.

What sets Solder Connection apart in the electronics industry?
We pride ourselves on technical excellence. As a premier distributor of soldering materials across the UK and Ireland, we serve critical sectors including aerospace, automotive and utilities. Our comprehensive product range includes solders, fluxes, soldering systems, fume extraction, assembly tooling and consumables.
Our technical expertise truly differentiates us in the market. We have a dedicated Technical Team offering expert guidance on applications, products and concerns. This support includes our technical website, in-person consultations and phone support.
Our ‘can-do’ philosophy means customers don’t just get products – they gain an extension of their team.
How has your business evolved?
Since our founding over 30 years ago, we’ve grown from focusing solely on electronics assembly to becoming a comprehensive solutions provider. We initially served Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) companies. As the UK electronics market shifted towards innovation and lower production volumes, we adapted while keeping our commitment to technical excellence.
Today, we support both electronics assembly and the industrial soldering sector, covering applications in plumbing, architecture, vehicle restoration, stained glass manufacture and precision engineering. We’re proud to partner with market leaders including Metcal, BOFA, Qualitek, Senju, Microcare, AIM Solders and Tannlin.
We also collaborate with Global Datum to provide comprehensive tooling services, from print support plates to robotic pick-up fixtures and inspection overlays. Our extensive experience allows us to deliver solutions rapidly, keeping production processes running smoothly.
What drove the partnership between Solder Connection and Marq-One?
While we are a go to technical service regarding soldering solutions and electronic assembly, we don’t offer IPC training, nor can we advise around standards or competency.
Our customers often ask us for solutions outside our remit, and the introduction to Marq-One came through Neil Edwards, Metcal‘s European Sales Manager, who recognised the potential in connecting companies with shared values.
What particularly impressed us about Marq-One was the extensive expertise of their team and Managing Director, Mark Yearby. Their engineering and operational leadership experience means they fully understands the challenges faced by engineers today, particularly in the aerospace, automotive and defence sectors.
This mirrors our own approach – solutions built on hands-on expertise to deliver the greatest impact.
How does this partnership benefit customers?
This collaboration creates unique value for professionals at all experience levels. Together, we guide clients through understanding different materials and flux chemistries, improving methods, and optimising systems for better reliability. After completing IPC training courses with Marq-One, clients gain access to our decades of materials expertise.
Our shared commitment to quality is particularly crucial in high-stakes sectors like aerospace and defence, where maintaining the highest standards is non-negotiable. The partnership ensures our clients receive consistent, expert support across all aspects of their electronic assembly processes.

The partnership between Marq-One and Solder Connection is a shared vision for excellence in the electronics industry. Together, we’re creating a comprehensive support system which combines world-class training with expert technical knowledge and superior materials.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand our collaboration, developing new training programmes and technical resources to address emerging industry challenges. Our joint commitment to innovation and quality ensures our clients will continue to receive the highest level of support as the industry evolves.
Solder Connection maintains the same high standards of customer service that you’ve come to expect from Marq-One. If you’d like to know more about their products visit their website for direct support from their team.
